In the year 2000 the Bell Atlantic Company merged with GTE and rebranded to be Verizon. The name is the combination of the Latin Word Veritas meaning truth and the word horizon. Utilizing Latin was a smart choice because True Horizon sounds more like a daycare then a massive telecom company.
